Turning Bottle Defects into Data for Their Supplier

A bottling company had bottles warping in production and caps failing in the field, with no way to measure either. We trained their team on a structured light scanner and Geomagic Control X, then consulted as they turned the defects into reports to share with their supplier.

The Challenge

Two Defects No One Could Measure

Bottles were warping during manufacturing, and caps were failing now and then once the product was in the field. Both problems were real, but neither could be measured reliably with calipers or gauges.

Without measurements, conversations with the supplier came down to complaints rather than evidence, and the defects kept coming.

What We Did

Training First, Then Consulting on the Real Problem

  1. Training on the Scanner and Control X

Their team learned to scan bottles and caps and compare them with the design in Control X.

  2. Mapping the Warping

With our support, they mapped where and how far each bottle moved from its design shape.

  3. Measuring How the Caps Seat

Cap and neck shapes were checked against the design to find out why caps were not holding.

  4. Reports for the Supplier

Dimensional reports that showed the supplier the same evidence, in the same format.

The Result

Defects the Supplier Could See and Act On

With measurements instead of complaints, the company and its supplier could look at the same defects and work on them together.
