One Arm Scanner for Reverse Engineering and Inspection

An automotive team had an arm scanner but no workflow linking it to their engineering work. Over five days we trained their team on Geomagic Design X and Control X, using their own parts, and they left with two workflows they now run on their own.

The Challenge

One Scanner, Two Jobs, No Workflow

The team needed their arm scanner for two different jobs: reverse engineering components into CAD, and inspecting parts against their design. That meant two pieces of software and two workflows, and neither was in place.

Generic training on sample parts would not have stuck. They needed to learn on the automotive components they handle every day.

What We Did

Five Days, Split Between Design X and Control X

  1. Three Days of Design X

Scan to CAD on their own parts, from raw scan to CAD their engineers could use.

  2. Two Days of Control X

Inspection with the same scanner: aligning scans to the design, checking dimensions and producing reports.

  3. Their Parts, Not Sample Data

Every exercise used the components they work on, so the steps carried straight over to real jobs.

  4. Two Workflows to Keep

Two repeatable workflows, reverse engineering and inspection, the team follows without us.

The Result

Two Workflows the Team Runs on Its Own

The team came out confident with both workflows and now runs them on its own schedule.
