From Idle Scanners to In‑House Inspection in Two Days

An aerospace manufacturer had an arm scanner, a structured light scanner and Geomagic Control X, but no one trained to use them. We trained their team on their own aircraft housing parts, and they left running the full inspection cycle themselves.

The Challenge

Scanners on the Shelf, Software Barely Opened

The team makes aircraft housing parts and had already invested in good measuring equipment: an arm scanner, a structured light scanner and Geomagic Control X. None of it was in daily use. No one had been trained, there was no set workflow, and Control X had barely been opened.

They needed people who could take a part from the scanner to a finished inspection report on their own, without calling in outside help for every job.

What We Did

Two Days of Hands-On Training on Their Own Parts

  1. Scanner Set-Up and Calibration

Calibrating both scanners so every measurement could be trusted.

  2. Scanning Their Own Parts

The team scanned their own aircraft housing parts, not sample data.

  3. Alignment to CAD

Lining the scan up with the design model in Control X.

  4. GD&T Inspection

Checking dimensions and GD&T against the drawing, and reading the colour map.

  5. Inspection Reports

Building reports the team can hand to their quality department and their customers.

The Result

A Full Inspection Cycle, Run In‑House

By the end of the second day, the team was running the whole inspection cycle on their own: scan, align, inspect and report.
