A node-locked licence belongs to one computer. A floating licence sits on your network and moves to whoever needs it.
Tied to one computer. Activate it online, or use an offline USB dongle for computers that stay off the internet. Best when one engineer runs Geomagic on one workstation.
Installed on your network and shared across your team. Anyone on the network can use it, one person at a time per licence. Best when several people share the software.
Design X Go, Control X Essentials and Control X Essentials Connect come as node-locked licences with online activation only. Floating licences and dongles are available for the other editions.
A perpetual licence includes the first year of maintenance. After that, you renew once a year. Renewal covers:

Yes. Schools, colleges and universities can buy education licences for Design X Pro, Control X Professional, Wrap and Geomagic for SOLIDWORKS, as well as a Design X and Control X suite. Design X Go, Design X Plus and Control X Essentials are not eligible.
You lose access to new versions and technical support. Lapsed maintenance is expensive to reinstate, so renew before your maintenance ends.
Choose node-locked if one person uses Geomagic on one computer. Choose floating if several people share it across your network. Design X Go and the Control X Essentials editions are node‑locked only.
